I blame myself for this injury. We keep hot wires in the front and back of our wood fences and in front and back of any woven wire fences to keep our young horses away from the fencing. I noticed the hot wire was a little to close to the woven wire fence in a lot I had just put Daisy in to start fitting her for her new home...and I meant to move it out further. I forgot. Daisy kicked at another yearling in the lot behind her and got her leg hung next to a post. The calm way Daisy handled all the cleaning, wrapping, injections and antibitotics is amazing. I don't believe most mature horses would have been so calm. Even with all she has been through, she still greets all humans. I want to thank Eileen, a friend, and Quarter Horse breeder from Texas for telling me how to care for this wound. It seemed to just keep getting worse until I took Eileen's advice. We didn't need to get any proud flesh cut off. The hair is growing in white, with very little scarring, but that is it. Thanks you so much Eileen. The picture at fat left was taken 3 weeks after the accident.
